My name is Heidi Hennigan. I look forward to getting to know you! In the meantime here is a little about me.

I am a Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), that is registered (RM) with the state of Colorado. (2018) I obtained my CPM through the Portfolio Evaluation Process (PEP) with North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). My training took me across the USA and into the homes of so many families that I honored to get to know and serve. (2012-2018). I apprenticed in 5 different apprenticeships, working with 11 midwives which gave me a very diverse education with the ability to serve a broad group of clients. Before midwifery school I was blessed to have 10 years learning about homeopathy from a skilled teacher for labor, birth and family. ( I am also the 4th generation to use homeopathy in my family.) I bring this knowledge into my care with you. Since 2004, I’ve served families as a birth doula in hospital, birth centers and home birth locations. In 2013, I was trained in placenta encapsulation.

I often get asked why I wanted to work in the birth field. I respond with a smile and say "I have known since I was three that I wanted to work with babies." My aunt was a nurse and I wanted to be a nurse that took care of the babies. I carried that dream throughout my childhood into my early adulthood. After the birth of my second child I was asked to attend my best friend's birth of her 8th child. I walked away from that birth knowing that was what I wanted to do. Yes, I still love the babies, but it is supporting the mother and family that I am truly passionate about!

I am almost a Colorado native (since the age of 4) and I currently live in Aurora with my fiancé and our 6 kids who span elementary to high school! I have experienced both medicated and unmedicated hospital birth, a water birth at a birth center in Germany, and my youngest was born at home in water. I have had midwives with all of my care.

My Philosophy: Grounded in Mother’s Intuition

What does intuition mean? “Intuition is the ability to understand or know something without conscious reasoning.” As a midwife I have taken many years to learn and understand how pregnancy and birth works and how to support a family through the birthing process. But how about supporting the mother’s (and partner’s) intuition when it comes to the birth of their child? At Aspen Roots Midwifery, I want to not only grow the knowledge and understanding of how birth works with informed consent of a wide variety of related subjects, I also want to nurture “Mother’s Intuition”. This is the ability to trust one’s self in the decisions they want or need to make.

Our appointments are not rushed. They last from 45-75 minutes and we really get to know each other. This is a time to explore the realms of pregnancy and birth and how you personally feel about it. Pregnancy is 9 months, and luckily not overnight! This is a time to grow into the role of becoming a parent, or becoming a parent again to new little being. I would love to support you on your journey.

Meet the Team!

Mary Kate Thompson, CPM, RM of Wild Rose Midwifery, LLC

I am so excited to be working with Mary Kate! We actually met while we were both in Pennsylvania, working with the Amish. (What an amazing experience!) She will come to at least one of our appointments so that may get to know her, usually the 36 week home visit.

“Midwife means ‘with woman’. I believe that midwives truly live up to their name in being ‘with women’ during the entirety of their pregnancy, birth and postpartum journey. I believe in the beauty and process of natural childbirth. I offer prenatal care, education, labs for pregnancy, home birth and postpartum care. Each women has their own unique path to motherhood and it is an honor to be able to serve and care for them in the ways that they need.” ~Mary Kate

Doulas:

I am so grateful to know some amazing doulas that have on the rare occasion, backed me up or partnered with me during doula births. If you would like to meet them, we can arrange a Facetime call during one of our prenatals so you get to know them as well! If you are a home birth client, and want a doula, I love having one of these ladies become part of our team! (Please note, that doula support is not included in the cost of midwifery care)

Amy Miley, LAc, MSOM, Birth Doula

Amy is the owner of Wooden Gate Acupuncture. Not only is she an acupuncturist with the knowledge of Chinese Medicine, she is also a doula! Amy and I have known each other for a few years now. She is very intuitive and knows her way around a “space” be it during an acupuncture treatment or as a doula!

Jessica

Jessica Klauss, Birth Doula

Jessica and I go way back! Our daughters brought us together after school one day surprised to learn we were both doulas! Since then we have shared carpools with each other and co-lead more than one troop of Girl Scouts together.

Jessica has both partnered with me as co-doulas at births and she has been back up for me as well. (contact Heidi for her contact information)
